Fasting and Medication.

Q:

Asa.
My question is regarding my 10 yr old daughter , she takes medicine for diabetes insipidus. This is a long term condition that causes extreme thirst and dehydration if she didn’t take her medicine at 9am and 9pm.
If she was to refrain from eating but had small quantities of water throughout the day if she felt thirsty would this be accepted as her fast?
She would only be able to keep a fast for 12 hrs , as the affect of the medication wears off after 12 hrs and then she needs to take more medicine. So would she be allowed to keep shorter fasts?
This is a condition she will always have and there is no cure.

Thank you for your answer

Wa alaykum salaam

Ruling 1696. If someone has an illness that makes him very thirsty and he cannot bear being thirsty, or it is excessively difficult for him to bear it, then fasting is not obligatory on him. However, in the second case, he must give one mudd of food to a poor person for each missed fast; and in the event that he is able to fast afterwards, it is not obligatory on him to make them up.
