Employing non muslim for household work

Q:

Salaam! Is it allowed to employ a non muslim for household work and patient care? We tried to find a muslim worker but couldnt find one. We need a helper for household and patient care urgently. Is it allowed to employ a non muslim?

A:

Bismillah ArRahman ArRaheem

Wa-Alaykum As Salaam
There is no problem in employing a non Muslim worker for house work or patient care.
You may be concerned around the issue of najasat of no Muslims?  If that is the case, please see this link for a clear explanation: Disbeliever (kāfir)
In any case, if the worker wears gloves during patient care or if there is only dry contact there will be no problem with regards to najasat either.
May you be blessed with the best of health.
