Eating meat in a non Muslim country

Q:

Assalamu Alaikum,
I am living in the US for my studies. I’ve been curbing meat entirely out of my diet as it is mostly not halal. It is difficult to obtain halal meat here. I am an extremely picky eater and if I try to eat something I dislike I begin to gag. This often results in starvation. Another point of concern for me is that I’m always consuming carbs (pizza, bread, potatoes) and diabetes is extremely common in my family and I dont want to have health repercussions later in life. In this case, do you think it would be permissible for me to eat meat here due to the difficult situation I am facing daily when it comes to food?

A:

Wa Alaykumussalam

Thank you for your query.

I can imagine it is very difficult in these situations but unfortunately, you cannot eat chicken or meat unless sure it was slaughtered according to Shar’iah.

You can eat rice, vegetables and types of different proteins, calories, carbohydrates etc. You can try to find out some places where you can get Halal chicken or meat.

May Allah(swt) grant you success

Wassalam,

Syed Haider
