Difference between بين ايديهم(baina Aidihim) and مِن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ ?

Q:

As sallamu alaikum . I have a question about ayah 9 of surah yasin — وَجَعَلْنَا مِن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ سَدّاً وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ سَدّاً فَأَغْشَيْنَاهُمْ فَهُمْ لاَ يُبْصِرُونَ — According to Hans Wehr Arabic-English dictionary I found بين ايديهم(baina Aidihim) means “in front of them”.So, in the given ayah does مِن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ also means the same thing as بين ايديهم(baina Aidihim) or there is a difference between بين ايديهم(baina Aidihim) and مِن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ in terms of grammar? could you please explain the difference between them?

A:

Wa Alaikum al-salam

thanks for your question

we have to look at word by word meaning in order to understand the diffrence between “بین ایدیهم” and “من بین ایدیهم”

In arabic “بین” means between and “ایدیهم” means their hands so literal translation of “” is between their hand which means their frontside (which is between their hands)

من” in Arabic mean from or in, so the translation of “من بین ایدیهم” is from their frontside or in front of them.

so the translation between “بین ایدیهم” and “من بین ایدیهم” is diffrent.
