Ask an Alim

Did I do something wrong? Did I break his trust?

Q:

A boy studies in my coaching… He is a Shia… I thought he was a good person… But later he told me that he had kissed 7 girls… He thought that I won’t tell anyone but I became very angry on hearing all of this and hence due to anger I informed my teacher about it… though I know that he won’t do anything to me but I didn’t expect this from him and hence I told my teacher everything bcoz I was very angry on him….

Did I do something wrong?
Did I break his trust?
If yes, what should I do now?

A:

Al-Salam Alaykum
Thank you for your question.

First, if your action cause him to stop doing this in the future there is no problem of telling your teacher. However, if there is not such effect and it is just to get back at him, that’s wrong.

Second, keep your distance from people who can be a potential slip toward sinning. On the other hand, if there is not a side benefit to telling others, we should not reveal others sins.

For now you must act according to the rules above. There is nothing to do, just to be careful. talking and being with the opposite gender is haram and has restricted rules you should follow.

don’t worry about the opinion of others about your self, as Allah is the owner of hearts and He can change them.

best regards!
