Ask an Alim

Can you please tell me what the best way is to deal with these type of parents? Should I leave my house so that peace will remain?

Q:

Salam aleikum, my question is quite simple but i’m obligated to give you some history so that you would understand my situation more. I grew up with an abusive father, he used to beat my mom in front of me. This abuse has gone, alhamudillah but my father is still an alcoholic and refuses to seek help. He has never displayed any affection towards me and would use very vulgar insults regarding my apperance. He still does, i fight back now and i know it’s wrong i have done wrong and i’m not proud of it. He gets really violent when my mom is not around. I was a rebelllious kid due to the trauma but i’m trying to better. My dad and i can’t even sit in the same room. Eventhoigh he has hurt me so much, i still cry because i want our relationship to be good but it’s impossible with him. I’ve tried. Can you please tell me what the best way is to deal with these type of parents? Should i leave my house so that peace will remain?

Assalamu alaykum

Thank you for your Question.

Not good relations with my father

Also, since your father is Alcoholic, this too builds up on his aggressive behavior And frustration. If you’re able to find help for him then it will really help solve the issues. It maybe get a bit worse in the beginning but InshaAllah the benefits will be alot.

You must seek some counseling For your self And your father. If This is not possible with him, then maybe a Scholar, friend and or elderly, who he listens to can help.

I pray all goes well.
