Women in Islam and Jobs

Q:

Asalamualaikum. I have a question regarding women in Islam and jobs. Is it permissible for a teenager to get a job outside in order to earn some extra money for things they want? The person comes from a single income household and although she has an allowance it’s not really enough for what she wants and needs. The argument placed by her parents, stopping her from getting a job, is that “women should stay quietly in their homes” and that the work environment is mixed one and if it can be avoided then should. However, I believe unnecessary interaction in the work place can easily be avoided so is it actually ‘haram’ to get a job? bearing in mind her parents say she has the basic necessities needed in life so a job would be unislamic. But is it so bad to want to earn your own money because you feel guilty taking off your parents when they can’t always afford it ?
Jazakallah.

Assalamu Alaykum

Thank you for your Question

According to the Islamic law There is no problem in working outside for women as long as they stay within their islamic legal limits.

However the consent and happiness of the parents will carry an equal weight.

May you always be successful
