Can women be single in Jannah, not forced to be married to someone?

Q:

Can a woman in Jannah have male hoors? Can women be single in Jannah, not forced to be married to someone?

A:

Salamun Alaykum

Thank you for your query.

You query consists of 2 parts.

Question 1: Can a woman have male Hur in Jannah?

لَهُمْ مَا يَشَاءُونَ فِيهَا وَلَدَيْنَا مَزِيدٌ

“They may have whatever they wish there [in Paradise], and with Us is more(Surah Qaf:35)

The Qur’an describes the blessings of heaven to encourage people to act, and heaven belongs to all righteous men and women. God has not made any difference between men and women in reward. What is mentioned in the description of heavenly wives in the verses of the Qur’an is only a part of heavenly blessings, although even this is not reserved just for men.

According to the divine teachings, in heaven, each man and woman have their own blessings and pleasures, including chaste partners, and this gift is not reserved for men, for example, the Holy Qur’an says:

وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا أَزْوَاجٌ مُطَهَّرَةٌ

and they shall have pure mates in them

The pronoun “they” in the verse refers to all heavenly beings, including men and women, not only heavenly men.

The plural أَزْوَاجٌ  means partner and not wife(as a partner). In Surah Dukhan/54 it is said:

كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَاهُمْ بِحُورٍ عِينٍ

Thus (shall it be), and We will wed them with Houris pure, beautiful ones.

In this verse, the pronoun “they” refers to all heavenly beings.

“Hur al-Ayn” is a description of the beauty of heavenly partners, both men and women, because the word “Hur” is the plural form of Ahur احور (black-eyed man) and Hauraحوراء  (black-eyed woman). The word “ain” is the plural of A’yun اعین(big-eyed man) and the plural of عیناء(big-eyed woman).

So having a partner in heaven is mentioned for both men and women.

Therefore, the promise of the pure and beautiful partner is for both men and women who will go to heaven.

Question 2: Can a woman stay single in Jannah and not be forced to married to someone?

Yes, it will be the choice of the people in Jannah. If a person wishes to stay with his/her husband/wife, one has the option and if one doesn’t wish, he/she can stay alone. There is no forcefulness in Paradise. And Allah knows best.

May Allah(swt) grant you success

Wassalam,
