Ask an Alim

can Muslims keep a water fast

Q:

I was wondering about this because I really want to do a water fast it’s when you cannot eat anything but can only drink water for maximum a week and apparently this is really good for your health and I want to do it but does Islam allow this.

A:

Waalaykum Salam.

The Genereal rule for anything like this is to see how much it Harms you.
If this is harmful to your body then it is haram to do so and not
recomended. Also,In this particular  case of water therapy, a week sounds too
much. You may want to revise the time duration at first and see how
it goes after that.

Kind regards
