Wa alaykum salam,

As far as I know, wearing gold is impermissible for men and if he were to wear it during the prayers it would also lead to their nullification. However, using it as part of a pen to write with does not seem to be an instance of ‘wearing’ it. So, I believe that it should be okay. I think maybe you are confusing the two. If there is something that I have missed please clarify it for me. I hope that helps.
