Ask an Alim

Can I create another profile , would my income be halal?

Q:

I used to work on a Freelancing Website named Fiverr where I was selling Freelance services like Mobile App & Web App Development. There was some issue and I was banned from that platform. They explained me and I accepted that it was my fault. Now, they do not allow us to create another profile on platform according to their Terms. We have other means of creating a new profile on that platform by using other email or contact details but they consider it illegal. We can even do this without they knowing it but still it is illegal according to them. My question here is, if I create another profile like this, would my income be halal?

A:

Bismihi Ta’ala,

Salam alaykum,

On Sayyid Ali Sistani writes the following in his “A Code of Practice for Muslims in the West”:

“It is neither permissible to steal from the private as well as the public property of non-Muslims, nor vandalize it, even if that stealing or vandalizing does not tarnish the image of Islam and Muslims. Such an act is counted as perfidy and violation of the guarantee given to non-Muslims indirectly when one asked permission to enter or reside in that country. And it is forbidden to breach the trust and violate the guarantee in regard to every person irrespective of his religion, citizenship, and beliefs.”

I hope that helps and I pray that you find halal means of income, inshallah,

Sayyid Shiraz Husain Agha
