Ask an Alim

Can a mustahab fast be kept along with a qadha fast?

Q:

If a woman has qaza fasts of many years and she is also keeping fasts with qaza intention. But meanwhile if she wants to keep a nafli roza to offer its reward to masoomeen, is she allowed to do it. Or she must offer qaza of all rozas and only then she can keep nafli roza.

Please guide.

Salamun Alaykum

Thank you for your query.

If she already had Qadha fast, then she is not allowed to keep mustahab fast.

For fasting the rule is if a person has Qadha fasts, he must perform and do the Qadha of those fasts and then only he can perform the mustahab fasts but for Namaz the ruling is that a person can pray Mustahab Namaz even if he has Qadha Namaz.

You can keep your qadha fast on any mustahab day for fasting and can also send the reward to Masumeen(as). Any ibadat and worship which has reward, its reward can be sent to Masumeen(as) or any deceased soul.

But not to forget, your intention should be for qadha fast if qadha fast is not performed and you will get the reward of keeping your Qadha fast and fasting on the mustahab day as well. And once your qadha fasts are completed then you can keep Mustahab fasts.

May Allah(swt) grant you success
