Breastfeeding Baby During Pregnancy

Q:

To whom it may concern.

I am mother of a 5+1/4 months old baby girl. I am pregnant also. I wanna inquire that is it ok in terms of Islamic Sharia to keep continuing breastfeeding my child when I am pregnant also. Some people around say its haram or sin to breastfeed the baby when mother is in pregnancy.

Is there any hadith or ayat which confirms the aforementioned perspective of people??

Kindly do elaborate your answer. Awaiting…… Jazak Allah

A:

SALAAMS,

Allah (SwT) has placed food and water for the child in the body of the mother, and has created an amazing system of feeding the newborn child in a manner which is perfect and most beneficial.
Allah (SwT) mentions in Surat al-Baqarah, Verse 233:  “Mothers shall suckle their children for two full years, – that for such as desire to complete the suckling.”

Breastfeeding to the infant child is allowed.  However, one should take care of her health and that of the unborn child.

Advice: make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins and eating a very good, nutritious and well balanced diet.
