Baking birthday, baby shower, marriage cakes permissible in Islam

Q:

I’m a muslim home baker. I take orders for the same. Will I be responsible if I bake cakes for birthdays? Will it be the same case as the Hadith for alcohol?

Also can you enlighten me on baking cakes for weddings, baby showers and anniversaries of any kind(be it marriage, celebrating number of years of an organization etc).
May Allah keep us guided.
Jazak Allahu Khayr

Salamun Alaykum

Thank you for your query.

There is no problem in baking and selling your products:

  1. As far as you are not propagating their wrong culture or events if any;
  2. As far as you are using Halal items in your product.

But for alcohol, a person can neither sell nor deliver.

According to Ayatullah al-Udhma Sayyid Ali Sistany:

Question: I am running a store and I have non-Muslim customers who want me to sell them alcoholic drinks. Can a Muslim buy and sell intoxicating alcohol to non-Muslims?

Answer: It is not permissible to buy and sell alcohol.
