Wa Alaykumussalam

Thank you for your query.

Licorice is an herb that grows in parts of Europe and Asia. The root is used as medicine. Licorice root contains glycyrrhizin, which is also called glycyrrhizic acid. https://www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingredientmono-881/licorice

Licorice root is cultivated throughout Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. It is used as a flavoring in candy, other foods, beverages, and tobacco products.

Today, licorice root is promoted as a dietary supplement for conditions such as digestive problems, menopausal symptoms, cough, and bacterial and viral infections. Licorice gargles or lozenges have been used to try to prevent or reduce the sore throat that sometimes occurs after surgery. Licorice is also an ingredient in some products for topical use (application to the skin). https://www.nccih.nih.gov/health/licorice-root

As stated it is used as a sweetener and for other different uses.

As far as it is just used as a sweetener and is not one of the drugs, then there is no problem in using it.

Wassalam,

Syed Haider
