Ask an Alim

Am I supposed to consider this minuscule amount of blood a period, or can I continue to pray and fast.

Q:

This question is in regards to whether I should resume fasting and praying or if I am having a period. In the past, i have had a period that was regular in terms of flow and time. It continues to remain regular in terms of time, but over time to flow has become less and less, to almost nothing now. Around the same time every month, I will still get premenstrual symptoms such as moodiness, aches and fatigue, but following these symptoms (currently) I will not have blood flow that even remotely stains a pad, but if I wipe there will be a remanent of light pink or red in the discharge. This discharge may become brown also, but overall, there is no ‘blood flow’. I will be seeing a doctor to find out why this is happening at 42, but in the meanwhile i would like to know if I am supposed to consider this minuscule amount of blood a period, or can I continue to pray and fast.

Assalamu Alaykum
Thank you for your question

Any bleeding seen at the time of your period, even if there is no flow in the outside, will be counted as Haid. Since, there is blood in the inside and that continuation of having blood in the inside counts as haidh. Should continue for Atleast 3 days.

Hope this was useful
