Ask an Alim

People say that Allah is in both sky and above Arsh same time.Is it the right aqidah?

Q:

Allah said in the Quran,” ءَأَمِنتُم مَّن فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ أَن يَخْسِفَ بِكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا هِىَ تَمُورُ

Do you feel secure that He who in the sky(sama) would not cause the earth to swallow you and suddenly it would sway?”(Al-Mulk 67 : 16)
Allah also said that,” ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱسْتَوَىٰ

The Most Merciful [who is] above the Throne established.(Ta Ha 20 : 5)
First ayah said that Allah is in sky second ayah said that Allah is above the Arsh e Azim.I know that Arsh is not sky. Some people say that Allah is in both sky and above Arsh same time.Is it the right aqidah?

WA ALAIKUM AL_SALAM

In Qur’anic interpretations Arsh has lots of meanings. For example some said arsh means the heavens, others said arsh is a metaphorical term for Allah’s knowledge, abilities or properties, another group of interpolators said that arsh means the heart of beliver which is a mysticla interpretatoin.

Firstly, It’s obvious that interpretating arsh as a physical place is wrong because Allah is not a physical being, hence, He doesn’t require a physical place like what quran says in surah al-zukhruf,84: It is He who is God in the sky, and God on the earth, and He is the All-Wise, the All-Knowing.

Secondly, we must know Allah is everywhere, just like Imam Ali(a.s) says in first sermon of Nahjul Balagha:

“Thus whoever attaches attributes to Allah recognises His like, and whoever recognises His like regards Him two; and whoever regards Him as two recognises parts for Him; and whoever recognises parts for Him mistook Him; and whoever mistook Him pointed at Him; and whoever pointed at Him admitted limitations for Him; and whoever admitted limitations for Him numbered Him. Whoever said: ‘In what is He?’, held that He is contained; and whoever said: ‘On what is He?’, held He is not on something else.”
