Adultery/Zina (Repentance)

Q:

A person committed a zina because of lack of knowledge of deen but by the will of Allah makes a sincere repentance. Now that person wants to marry one who is religious and pious so that he/ she can help him/her to spend life as per islam. So my question is can a person who committed zina ( after a sincere repentance ) can marry a person who is pious? Please answer in the light of quran and hadis JazakAllah

A:

Salaam Alaykum,

it is true that zina is considered as one of the most hated and abbhored acts in in Islam.

As the Quran says:
Surah Al-Isra, Verse 32:

And come not near unto adultery. Lo! it is an abomination and an evil way.

But  for those who regret and repent, Allah has always kept the doors of tawba open .
As He says in sura zumar ayat no 53 :

Say: “O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

It is also mentioned in a  hadith from our 5th Imam:
One who repents is like the one who has never committed any sin.
If a person after committing a sin does tawba,Allah not only forgives him but erases all his sins .Therefore now that he is clean he should thank Allah for His grace and continue his life in the submission  and servitude of Allah swt.

In regards to your question, this person has all the rights to marry a pious person who can help him/her in the servitude of Allah swt.

Sukaina Taqavi.
