Ask an Alim

verbally abused by third person

Q:

Asalamu alikum,
A third person spoke very abusive words to me about my parents. Its hurting emotionally so bad. Should I reply politely back or I should not do anything what should I do

A:

Wa alaykum salaam

In most place (life history of the Masoomeen), it is seen that Islam encourages to forgive and leave the matter on Allah.A person who forgives is actually doing good to himself as this makes him grow spiritually and a person who does bad is actually doing bad to himself.

But this is not a general rule. There are times a person needs react firmly if he feels the negative effects of keeping quiet are more.

In your case, you have to analyze the situation and then specify your responsibility.
