Ask an Alim

About saying IN SHA ALLAH……

Q:

I just wanted to ask when we want to do something, ALLAH said in Quran right that we should say IN SHA ALLAH right?

Now, what if someone wants to do something but on the same time he don’t know if he will not do too.

So, when he is alone and if it’s a “Maybe” situation so still he should say IN SHA ALLAH? as maybe he can do that too?

A:

Salamun Alaykum

Thank you for your query.

The word ان شاءالله is repeated 6 times in the Holy Quran, which is as follows:

  1. Surah Baqarah/verse 70
  2. Surah Yusuf/verse 99
  3. Surah Kahf/verse 69
  4. Surah Qasas/verse 27
  5. Surah Saafaat/verse 102
  6. Surah Fatah/verse 27

Few points regarding ان شاءالله:

1. The meaning of ان شاءالله is: “If God wills”

2. The person who utters this blessed sentence believes that there is a will higher than our will, and if He(God) does not will, nothing will be achieved.

3. In some cases, the sentence “Insha’Allah” is said as a blessing.

The fact that belonging to God’s providence is from the perspective of it being a blessing, and people always use it in their words and say “In sha’Allah” and “Masha’Allah”, the Qur’an also spoke according to the culture of the people and this is a method/style of Qur’an that is used in various cases.

Therefore, we understand saying it is as a blessing and with the intention that there is a will above our will is indeed very good.

May Allah(swt) grant you success

Wassalam,
